Product Design Case Study: Tinypulse

The problem to solve for…

When I came to TinyPulse as Director of Design they had one product supporting a small number of customers. They were interested in expanding into more hr software, and larger enterprises. I was hired to oversee all aspects of design: Brand, Product and Marketing. I began with sitting down with customers to understand the need, the use cases and the holes that exist in products currently on the market. The key issues that arose from those conversations was : Designing for 20 employees to 20,000 employees, creating a full suite of applications for an employee’s full lifecycle (Talent/Interview, Onboard, Perform, Engage, Exit), differing company structures, and keeping perception positive of the tool, to increase engagement.

Principles to strong HR software

Trustworthy

HR professionals wanted a software that would be dependable and could work with all of the possible use cases they brought to the table.

Light

We thoughtfully created a new design language, with a graphic design styling, a new design system, and brand language to make the products more accessible.

Be heard

Employees wanted to be heard but feared lack of anonymity. We worked with companies to be as transparent as possible to show what data would be shared.

Understand the data

Leaders wanted to be able to slice and dice data by organization, manager, role and more to get to the real pulse of the company.

Engaging employees,
as well as HR

Feeling seen and heard.

An HR software that cares

Creating survey forms that were easy to fill out, to ensure engagement from employees while allowing for customization by leadership and hr.

Don’t take my word for it

Customer feedback and ROI

Direct quotes from customers:

We started using TINYpulse to receive feedback and measure the overall happiness within our company. We have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it has been to integrate into the weekly schedule and the open and honest answers we have been receiving. I can’t recommend this tool enough as a means of listening to your team and improving company culture.

Set it and forget it: Requires zero admin time. Every Wednesday I simply review the results with my exec team and fine-tune things to make sure the company is happy and productive.

ROI: Happy employees = productive employees. Everyone always asks how we have such high retention and a great company culture, and we tell them, “TinyPulse!”.
